Thank you for sharing the JOMO concept. With every new invention comes a requirement of time. I love that you start with the invention of electricity. I can imagine a time when the sun would go down and evenings were spent by candlelight as a peaceful reflection before bedtime. Electricity is likely the first conflict of our mental health as it brings light to the time of day when we should be resting and recharging. It would be the start of the human experience proving to be a 24/7 management of our time deciding how long we rest without the natural rhythms of the sun rising and setting to determine that same cadence for our lives.
Today we are tasked with far more complex conflicts beyond electricity. Today we have to find time to watch the shows we have recorded, work from the office and at home, exercise in an uber-competitive environment that only serves to award us with a doctor's visit after overzealous attempts at a sport long beyond our peak.
I hope there is a future in rewinding back to a time where it is okay to do nothing at sunset but sit with our family and reflect on a day that served us and our community without taking the last drop of life we have in us for that day.
